Hailing from suburban Orange County, Calif., the Kottonmouth Kings blend hip-hop, punk, reggae and alternative rock, adding a streetwise psychedelic party element that encourages comparisons to Cypress Hill, at least in spirit.
The multicultural collective was formed in 1994 by Brad Daddy X (formerly of the alternative metal band Humble Gods), D-Loc and Saint Vicious, who along with DJ Bobby B. form the core of the large ensemble. Appearances with Offspring, Sugar Ray, Sublime, and other new-school California heavyweights brought the 'Kings to the attention of Capitol Records, which released their self-produced full-length debut, Royal Highness, in 1998.
The band's latest, High Society, was released in 2000. ~ Lana Fanelli
