A native of Jamaica who also spent time growing up in Britain, the New Jersey-based rapper Canibus first attracted attention as a protégé of Wyclef Jean. He then found himself at the center of controversy over a prolonged war of words with LL Cool J that originated after the star deleted Canibus' cameo from the track "4, 3, 2, 1" over a perceived dis. The war of words played itself out in the media, culminating in the release of Canibus' 1998 debut single "Second Round K.O.; " the full-length Can-I-Bus followed later that year.
