Tribute to Tupac Shakur from the Atlanta Journal
If there's one part of Jamahl King's 6-year-old business he's hoping won't expand, it's this: helping to celebrate the lives of artists who've died young.
But once again, the executive director of Atlanta's S.T.E.P.S. Event Planning has been tapped to throw such a memorial, this time for former Atlantan Tupac Shakur. The late rapper-actor's mother, Afeni Shakur, chose King to put together a public celebration and candlelight vigil at 4-Ever Family Music from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, the same day Tupac Shakur's posthumous CD, "Better Dayz," hits stores.
"It's obviously another kind of challenge as an event planner when someone asks you to do this," said King. "It's not just making the party spectacular for a client. It's making sure that you respect the artist we're gathering for, who the artist was, and just trying to keep them and their spirit alive."
Rappers Eightball and the Attic Crew as well as local multitalent Jazze Pha have said they'll show. For more information, call 770-465-4002.
