Three associates of Tha Row founder Marion "Suge" Knight were arrested yesterday for allegedly conspiring to murder a gang rival, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Kordell Depree Knox, 37, Michael Payne, 25, and Theodore Kelly, 29, were arrested when 175 sheriff's deputies served search warrants during a raid of 16 sites that included Knight's Beverly Hills office, and homes in multiple cities.
Knox, Payne, and Kelly are accused of planning a retaliation for the gang-related murder of Eric Daniel, an alleged gang member who died on June 7. Daniel is believed to have been murdered in response to the killing of Alton "Buntry" McDonald, a former Knight associate.
Knox, a former sheriff's deputy, was arrested at 5 a.m. at his Compton home. Kelly and Payne, who are alleged gang members, were detained at Tha Row office and a Long Beach residence, respectively.
According to the associated press, five people are still being sought for arrest. During the raids that encompassed Las Vegas and Southern California cities Malibu, Lakewood, Paramount, North Hollywood, and Lynwood, two other men were arrested on unrelated drug charges.
During a press conference Thursday, Sheriff's Capt. Pete Amico said the arrests were not connected to the deaths of rappers Tupac Shakur or Notorious B.I.G. "This is strictly a gang-related murder in the city of Compton," Amico said.
David Z. Chesnoff, an attorney for Knight, thanked the LAPD. "We appreciate the professionalism of the police in clearly indicating that Mr. Knight is not a suspect," Chesnoff said in a statement. A spokesperson for the media division of the Los Angeles Police Department said they were not discussing the matter.
