Attention Hip Hoppers! The Chicago area's finest dancers under 18 can win a chance to perform with an internationally renowned hip hop performance company and a scholarship for technical training with an award-winning Chicago dance troupe.

Five finalists of Centre East's "Who Wants to be a Hip Hop Star?" contest will perform live with the cast of "Break! The Urban Funk Spectacular," Saturday, Oct. 28 (3:00 and 7:30 p.m.), at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, with a special performance by the grand prize winner. The top five finalists will also receive an apprenticeship with Full Effect Theatrical Dance Company, Chicago, a hip hop dance troupe that performs in feature films and music videos with Grammy Award winners. In addition, the top ten finalists will receive dinner for two at Lettuce Entertain You's Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba.

The contest is open to single or duo performers under 18 years of age who live in Illinois. Contestants must send a high quality DVD or VHS videotape of a 3-minute-or-less live performance with their entry form to: "Who Wants to Be a Hip Hop Star?", Centre East, 9501 Skokie Blvd, Skokie, IL 60077. Entry forms and contest rules can be downloaded at http://www.centreeast.org/ . A committee of some of Chicago's most experienced hip hop choreographers and dance instructors will judge the entries and select the ten finalists who will perform in the final round at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts. Judges include: Andye Jamieson, Dance 2XS; Kyle Terry, Chicago Dance Crash; James Colter, Break!; Dane Campbell, Full Effect Theatrical Dance Company and Michael Jones of Urban Dance.
