Rapper Turk, known for his role in the Cash Money Hot Boys group was sentenced to 12 years in prison in a decision Wednesday (April 26) after entering a "best interest" plea for his role in a shooting involving a Swat team deputy.

Born Tab Virgil, the rapper entered an Alford plea, which is also known as the "best interest" plea, to the attempted second-degree murder charge.

If the rapper had been convicted and had not entered the Alford plea, he would have faced up to 25 years behind bars.

During court proceedings last year, Turk was convicted of firearm possession, as well a being a felon and drug addict. He was sentenced to 10 years in in that case. Prior to that incident, he had a felony drug conviction on his record.

In the most recent case, Turk was the accused person held responsible for firing shots from a bedroom closet during a drug raid. The shots fired from inside the closet hit Swat team deputy member Chris Harris four times.

The rapper denied his involvement with the officer shooting. Swat member Chris Harris attended the final sentencing of Turk's federal charge in his hearing last October.

Attorney Jay Bailey made a statement Wednesday stating that he was working with authorities to allow the two sentences to be served concurrently, which the state prosecutors did not oppose.

Turk has recorded two solo albums titled "Young & Thuggin" (2001) and "Raw & Uncut" (2003).
