Suge Knight has finally made good on his mid-nineties promise to open an East Coast office of Death Row.
The mogul recently signed Queensbridge rapper Lake as the label’s first artist, and is reportedly trying to acquire incarcerated rapper Shyne for the roster as well. Lake, however, told New York's WQHT-FM that he will be the “flagship artist” of Death Row East.
“We doing this for the streets. Death Row is back,” said Lake, who has appeared on records by Nas, Mobb Deep, and Cormega. “The streets is ready, the penitentiary is ready. The foundation of what we doing [starts with] the music."
Suge, meanwhile, says his decision to sign Lake first is self explanatory.
"Everybody knows Lake is hot,” he said. “It speaks for itself. It’s really important for me to sign somebody that can go back to their own neighborhood. My whole thing is that, far as the music business, it used to be fun. Its time for me to deal with people that don’t tell on me and I don’t tell on them. Don’t tell the police. Everybody did they time.
