The following is a poem, dedicated to the death and life of Stanley Tookie Williams. It was written to provoke thought, about the next generation of urban youth. Our culture has become increasingly violent and materialistic. It's all fun and games for some, but in the urban ghetto, on ground zero it is a way of life.
We came from a long line of Gangsta Babies,
Who be tough like wolf rabies,
We might jack ya nursery school,
In a little baby Mercedes,
We come from a long line,
Of hustlers, pimps and killers,
Plus Moms and maybe a Pops,
That be dope dealing guerillas.
The Police projectiles swerve,
They decrease the protected and served,
We die by lethal injections,
Rejected by one man’s words,
We do a bid, write a rap and they feeling us,
But we aint Afro-Centric,
Cause we killing us,
We gangsta babies need healing cause,
Our favorite rap stars be filling us,
With Stuff.
Are we foolish like Egyptians?
Who worshiped the sun?
The earth, moon and stars,
Civilization were stunned,
The race isn’t to the swift,
But we still want to run,
Brown boxes in the streets,
Filled with negro colored guns.
Buck! Buck!
Mother’s eyes flux the system,
In mad alarming numbers,
Our Government will still enlist them,
On International missions, that are way off course,
How is freedom given,
If it’s taken by force?
Of course, that makes no true sense,
And there is no earthly redemption,
No Gangsta Babies,
No Ladies,
No Gents,
We saw a Gangsta Baby change his heart,
And his righteous deeds were overlooked,
But behold, some know they were all transcribed.
In the heavenly father's book.
Death is not the end; it is the beginning of eternity.
Hence forth and forever let ever Gangsta say,
Amen.
Rest in Peace.
