Just like other rappers, reggaeton sensation Daddy Yankee is the latest artist to sign a deal with Reebok. The musician has formed a multi-year partnership with Reebok for a signature collection of footwear, apparel and accessories entitled DY.
DY is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2006 and will be available at athletic specialty retailers. The collection will consist of sport-inspired designs that exude Daddy Yankee's vibrant energy.
"Reebok is the perfect brand for me to partner with because they believe in what I believe in -- being real and not being afraid to do something that sets you apart from the crowd," said Yankee via a statement. "I'm truly honored to be able to share my uniqueness and creativity with the rest of the world through my deal with Reebok."
Reebok are just as excited as Daddy Yankee and hope to tap into the Latin market he caters too.
"Daddy Yankee is a true trailblazer in the music industry and Reebok is excited to partner with someone that has such a strong connection and point of relevancy with today's youth," said Que Gaskins, Reebok's vice president of entertainment and lifestyle marketing. "We look forward to offering product that mirrors Daddy Yankee's style and allows consumers to fully celebrate the culture of reggaeton."
In addition to his new signature line, Daddy Yankee will be featured in Reebok's "I Am What I Am" advertising campaign. Created by New York advertising agency Mcgarrybowen, the campaign celebrates contemporary heroes of today's global youth including music icons, athletes and entertainers. Christina Ricci, Donovan McNabb, Allen Iverson, Jay-Z, Yao Ming, 50 Cent and Stevie Williams are among those featured in the campaign, as well as Daddy Yankee.
Daddy Yankee is also preparing the release of CD/DVD compilation featuring footage from his latest world tour called Barrio Fino en Directo, which includes guest appearances from Snoop Dogg on a track called Gangsta Zone" and Paul Wall on the remix to "Machete Reloaded." The album is slated for a December 13 release.
Also, Yankee is working on his next studio album, entitled Cartel, the follow-up to Barrio Fino, which is the first reggaetón LP to go platinum. According to MTV, Pharrell, Luny Tunes and Dr. Dre have already agreed to jump onboard to produce the album, due out in 2006.
