The holidays are such a wonderful time to share our blessings with our friends and family, but for the children who have lost everything to Hurricane Katrina, clinging to a doll or teddy bear is their only comfort. The EARS Foundation (a division of the EARS Entertainment Group) who produces LIFEbeat: The Music Industry Fight AIDS' "Hearts & Voices," benefit concert is the organizer of The Christmas For Katrina Toy Drive & Concert Event to be held Saturday, December 17th from 2pm-7pm at The Skate Key Entertainment Complex located at 220 East 138th Street in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx. Performers include Juelz Santana who has the #1 hip-hop album in the country, Reggae superstar, Sizzla, the first reggae artist to be signed to The Dame Dash Music Group, and Atlantic Records/Family Ties/Dangerous recording artist, Deemi. The toy drive/concert is sponsored by WPRW-FM Power 105.1 and Toys For Tots in conjunction with The Amer! ican Red Cross.
After producing several successful benefit concerts for LIFEbeat - The Music Industry Fight AIDS, The EARS Foundation is using the same industry connects that brought Kanye West, Carl Thomas, Tony Touch, Nina Sky, Tego Calderon, Aventura, Mario Winans etc. and others the LIFEbeat stage to help the families in New York displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Many of those families displaced from New Orleans are living in the New York area and The EARS Foundation (a division of The EARS Entertainment Group) has partnered with The Red Cross to invite them to The Christmas For Katrina Toy Drive/Concert Event FREE OF CHARGE where they'll be lavished with toys and surrounded by their new New York community.
Tonya Lewis, Chief Operating Office and President of The EARS Entertainment Group, explains why EARS feels this Toy Drive is meaningful, "I watched in horror as the lives of people were stripped away by Hurricane Katrina. I saw the faces of children, clinging to teddy bears and toys who lost everything. Although I gave a financial contribution, the holidays are the hardest time to deal with tragedy and many of these people are separated from their extended families. We wanted to create an event where we, New Yorkers, could bring comfort to these families living in our area. We are extremely grateful that Juelz Santana, Sizzla, and Deemi have joined us in that effort."
Juelz Santana who was the first artist to confirm, will be performing songs from his newly released album, WHAT THE GAME'S BEEN MISSIN, including the hit single "There It Go (The Whistle Song)." What The Game's Been Missin' is the #1 hip-hop album debuting in the top position on Billboard's Hip-Hop/Rap Charts (beating out Chamillionaire, Nelly, and Big Boi of Outkast). The album is also one of the Top 10 albums in the country according to Billboard's Top 200 Charts. Atlanta Records singing sensation, Deemi, will release her debut, Soundtrack Of The Streets Spring 2006. Jamaican sensation, Sizzla Kalonji, the latest acquisition to The Dame Dash Music Group, is an exciting, and electrifying addition to this concert.
General admission is $10 and an unwrapped toy.
About The EARS Foundation
The EARS Foundation is a charitable organization designed to give back to the urban community through the development of urban music and music education. We aim to provide job opportunities and internships in the music and entertainment field as an alternative to drugs and crimes. Our students have been placed in almost every major record label in New York City. TEAM E.A.R.S and its founders Tonya Lewis and J.P Taylor serve as the producers of the Hearts & Voices Concert Series.
Currently working with LIFEbeat, the Music Industry Fights AIDS, Hearts & Voices Programs, the foundation produces a bi-monthly awareness concert that raises money to provide entertainment in hospitals for patients affected with HIV/AIDS. Highlighted by the Roc-a-Fella takeover featuring performances from Memphis Bleek and Kanye West plus an all-star Bad Boy Takeover with 8ball & MJG, Loon Mario Winans and Carl Thomas, the concert series reaches out to the young urban community stressing the importance of safe sex and AIDS awareness.
Another staple of The EARS Foundation is the "Stay in School Campaign." Concerned with the high and rapidly increasing drop-out rate in New York City, this program brings celebrities to schools in the tri-state for a day to discuss the importance of staying in school and pursuing higher education. The campaign which launched in April 2004 has brought Atlantic Records recording artist Fat Joe to several New York City schools, as well as Roc-a-fella Records recording artist Rell and Def Jam recording artist Juelez Santana.
Forever Loved Entertainment is adding Christmas for Katrina to the many charitable events they do all year. For EARS knows that giving back is a pleasure and when you give you receive.
