International revolutionary hip-hop and rap artists Dead Prez will be spreading their philanthropic message in Cape Town on Friday as part of the upcoming Baobab Urban Youth Conference (BUCs).

Dead Prez, consisting of emcees and activists M1 and, will be the main performing act at the BUCs closing party that evening.

Both artists are deeply involved in various community groups in New York, while concurrently using Dead Prez as a mouthpiece for their politically charged beliefs.

The duo signed a recording deal with Loud Records, which released their famed album, 'Let's Get Free'.

Before the record was even on the shelves, Dead Prez had built up a substantial underground following with their powerful live performances using rousing unreleased material.

Their critically acclaimed black market release, 'Turn Off the Radio', remixed well-known dance hits by artists like Aaliyah and Black Rob.

The tracks earned a level of credibility by introducing thought-provoking topics into a familiar context.

'Revolutionary but Gangsta' is listed as another critically acclaimed album and has been released by Sony.

Dead Prez has been nominated this year in the 7th Annual Soure Awards for Remix of the Year 'Hell Yeah' featuring Jay-Z.

This is the second time the duo will have performed in South Africa. They will be joined be local artists DJ Ready D, The Beatbangaz, Shamiel X, E20, Azuhl, 3Manskappe, Handbreakturn and Emcee Delinquent.

Addressing the inequalities of globalization

BUCs is a non-profit internet-based media project of Both-ENDS. It encourages youth from across the world to get together on the website and exchange ideas about globalization and sustainable development.

The website provides a forum and in so doing has become a source of news and view from the youth of Africa and beyond, especially pertaining to globalization.

This year, the conference is an attempt to communicate and celebrate the youth's role in national development and to enlist their help in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

BUCs will run in Cape Town and then in Amsterdam, with up to 1000 youth participating in each city, as well as up to 100 presenters, facilitators and VIPs from various sectors, including government, various development fields, education and the media.
