Popular hip-hop/rap artist Ludacris has signed a deal with XM radio to host a weekly show exclusive for XM radio, the nation's largest satellite radio service. The radio service boasts 5 million current customers.
The show will be titled "Disturbing The Peace Presents Ludacris' Open Mic" and will feature hand-picked songs from the Southern rapper as well as exclusive interviews with similar rap artists and music from his own personal music collection.
Ludacris, better-known as Chris Bridges by his friends and family is an extremely popular rap artist in today's industry and is expected to gain a large market share with his current successful fan base.
This is the beginning of a great partnership and I really look forward to growing with XM and their millions of subscribers,” Ludacris said. “XM Satellite Radio is affording me the opportunity to expose our audience to a wider variety of music and ideas.”
He started his career as a DJ in Atlanta on the radio station Hot 97. Since then he has enjoyed his success as a major-label artist since his first album debut in 2000. Record sales have surpassed the 15 million records mark sold worldwide.
“The addition of Ludacris to the XM artist family is a testament to XM’s commitment to create the best original music programming available on satellite radio,” states Eric Logan, executive vice president of programming for XM Satellite Radio. “Ludacris’ passion for and knowledge of music, along with his remarkable talent as an artist, are a natural fit with XM.”
“Disturbing Tha Peace Presents Ludacris’ Open Mic” weekly music show will debut in January 2006 on XM’s uncut hip-hop channel RAW (XM channel 66).
Ludacris will also be making an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show scheduled for October 6.
