The son of US R&B singer Chaka Khan has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in the shooting of a 17-year-old boy at a Californian party last year.
Damien Patrick Holland entered the plea yesterday.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Paula Adele Mabrey reduced his $US2 million ($A2.55 million) bail to $US500,000 ($A636,600) and set a March 15 date for a preliminary hearing.
Holland, 25, surrendered to police on Monday after he learned that prosecutors had charged him in the death of Christopher Baily of Los Angeles.
Prosecutors allege that Holland shot Baily at a September 2004 party as the two struggled for a gun during a fight.
Holland was arrested after the shooting, but was released when prosecutors said they did not have enough evidence to charge him.
Investigators recently found witnesses to the shooting, which allowed the district attorney's office to charge Holland, according to an earlier police statement.
