Rap artist Lil Wayne has just re-newed his contract with the only label he's every known, Cash Money Records.
With much speculation as to whether or not the rapper was gonna leave the label, the co-founders -- Ronald "Slim" Williams and Brian "Baby" Williams -- speak out on the situation.
"Lil Wayne is part of the heart and soul of the Cash Money family and always will be," stated Ronald 'Slim' Williams. "He has grown up with Cash Money and we've watched him mature as an artist and now as an entrepreneur, with his new Young Money Label."
Lil Wayne has been signed with the Williams' label since the age of 11, and according to rumors, he was in negotiations with Jay-Z at Island Def Jam as well as Warner, where a deal was almost reached in December. But Wayne has opted to re-sign with Cash Money, which is a co-venture with Motown/Universal.
"Lil Wayne eats, sleeps, breathes hip-hop just like we do, and this deal locks down an even greater future together," co-CEO Bryan "Baby" Williams added.
Besides re-signing as a solo artist, Wayne is also flexing his entrepreneurial muscles with the launch of his own Young Money Record label, which is a joint venture with Cash Money Records.
Among the artists Wayne will be introducing, the first will be R&B artist Real - who debuted on Wayne latest album The Carter, as well as Mannie Fresh's The Mind Of Mannie Fresh.
