Comedian Chris Rock, who will host this year's Oscars, may be too outrageous for the ceremony especially after he slams controversial jokes at members and nominees.
In an interview to the TV channel Entertainment Weekly, Rock called Hollywood's most prestigious awards function "a fashion show" and implied that it was mostly for gay people.
“Come on,” the comedian added, 'it's a fashion show. No one performs; it's not like a music show. Nothing against people who aren't straight, but what straight guy that you know really cares? They're clothes. What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one. And they don't recognize comedy, and you don't see a lot of black people nominated, so why should I watch it?”
According to some members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that organizes the event, the actor’s comments humiliated many Academy Award nominees and members.
"We have no intention of asking Chris to step aside. These were humorous digs at a show that some people, obviously including Chris Rock, think may be a bit too stuffy. We can't wait to watch him perform," said Academy Awards producer Gil Cates. However, there will be a seven-second delay in live telecast.
