A charity appearance by rap artist Ludacris at Alabama's Montgomery Mall, had to be stopped shortly after it began, when the crowd became uncontrollable.

Super hip hop rapper Ludacris donated $300 in toys to a radio station charity drive and was signing autographs and posing for pictures at the mall's newly-opened store, Citi Gear.

Though scheduled for two hours, he was asked to leave by police after about 20 minutes, when security could not control the crowd and two small fights broke out. Well over 100 people had been waiting for more than 30 minutes for the rapper to arrive.

A Montgomery police officer said no arrests were made, but an unidentified man was seen being detained in the mall's public safety office.

The police declined further comment.
