Cynthia Brent, 39, pleaded not guilty to allegations that she cooked the books in order to funnel drug money through Rap hip hop record label Murder Inc., home of Ashanti and Ja Rule, between 1997 and 2003.

Sources close to the case speculated that the feds had charged Brent in the hopes of pressing her into cooperating with their sweeping probe targeting Irv Gotti, whose real name is Irv Lorenzo, and his alleged partner in crime, convicted drug kingpin Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff.

Visibly distraught during her arraignment in Brooklyn federal court, Brent hugged her husband and buried her head in his shoulder after magistrate Judge Joan Azrack released her on a $200,000 bail bond signed by her spouse and his stepfather.

The bookkeeper, who lives in Maplewood, N.J., faces a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars if she is convicted of money-laundering and financial-structuring charges contained in the newly unsealed indictment.
