R Kelly is suing rapper Jay-Z, who dropped him from their "Best of Both Worlds" concert tour after Kelly stormed off the stage, mid-show, at Madison Square Garden last Friday night.
But Kelly says the memory of the futile murders of rappers Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur prevented him from taking matters into his own hands when he heard Jay-Z dissing him on a radio interview.
"Even when he went against me on the radio, talking about me real bad, I didn't go to the radio station trying to go at him like that," Kelly tells syndicated DJ Big Tigger.
"Biggie and Tupac taught me we shouldn't go at things that way."
Feuding rappers Smalls and Shakur were shot to death within a year of each other in the '90s.
Kelly said he was pepper-sprayed — allegedly by a Jay-Z crony — and prevented from returning to the Madison Square Garden stage.
During a radio interview after the concert, Jay-Z accused Kelly of being "unprofessional and unpredictable" during the tour.
Kelly's interview airs Sunday at 6 p.m. on Power 105.1 FM.
