According to Philadelphia news reports, rapper Beanie Sigel blended in with other defendants yesterday when he showed up - minus fancy hat, flashy suit and formidable cigar - for a Municipal Court appearance.
Sigel showed up with fiancée, Melissa Butts, to a status hearing on his simple-assault and reckless-endangerment case. The hearing - a routine proceeding to check the case's readiness for trial - was continued until Nov. 3.
The misdemeanor case against the rap star stems from an alleged altercation he had with Wendall Mathis on Jan. 9, 2003. Mathis said Sigel made a rude remark to a woman he was with in Germantown and, when Mathis protested, Sigel punched him in the eyes.
Sigel is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 8 on federal gun and drug possession charges. He's also awaiting a Jan. 12 retrial in state court on an attempted murder charge.
The rapper's first trial, for allegedly shooting Terrence Speller outside a West Philadelphia bar, ended in April with a hung jury.
