A Miami resident is sueing the MTV network for illegally showing her home in one of its shows, which suggests that hip-hop rap artist Ja Rule lives there, the Miami Herald reported.
Homeowner Jeanette Varella claims in the lawsuit that MTV continues to show clips of her lavish home in its 'Cribs' show even though she never authorized the network to film inside the house or to air the footage.
The show suggests that Ja Rule owns the eight-bedroom mansion on Star Island, an exclusive enclave a few hundred meters from the downtown arena that will host Sunday's awards ceremony.
But Ja Rule's corporate sponsors only rented the waterfront house for a few days in 2001, during the long Memorial Day weekend, when hip-hop crowds descend on Miami. The Miami Herald said they paid $16 000 dollars for rent plus a $30 000-dollar security deposit.
Ja Rule is named as a co-defendant in the lawsuit, which also alleges that he hosted a rowdy party for 600 people in violation of the rental agreement.
"After the party, there were numerous syringes and condom wrappers strewn about the mansion," the lawsuit claims.
