Hip hop star Jay-Z leads the nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards which take place in Miami on 29 August.
The rapper is up for six awards including best male video and best rap video for the track 99 Problems.
Beyonce, No Doubt, Usher and Outkast all have five nominations and British bands The Darkness and Franz Ferdinand are both up for two awards.
Kanye West and Usher will perform live at next month's ceremony.
Rock bands Jet, Hoobastank and Yellowcard will also appear. The host of the show is still to be announced.
Jay-Z's other nominations are for best video, best choreography, best direction and best editing.
British hopefuls The Darkness are up for best new artist and best rock video for I Believe in a Thing Called Love.
Scottish band Franz Ferdinand are nominated in the MTV2 award and breakthrough video categories for their hit single Take Me Out.
The group were recently nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
The MTV ceremony at the American Airlines Arena is expected to get a television audience of about one billion viewers.
Outkast's number one single Hey Ya received nominations for best video, best hip hop video, best art direction and best special effects.
Justin Timberlake and Beyonce Knowles won three awards at last year's event at New York's Radio City Music Hall - as did British group Coldplay.
Rap star Missy Elliott took the main award, best video, for her song Work It, which was also named best hip-hop video.
