Spike Lee's new movie "She Hate Me”, deals with sex, race, money, politics and other themes.
The director, known for his social commentary, talked with the TV show "Extra" about his new movie and Kobe Bryant's drama in court and on the court.
Lee believes Kobe has re-signed a mega-million dollar contract with the Lakers because the team's management is convinced Kobe will be acquitted in his Colorado rape case. "He'll be able to come to camp in September," Lee says. "Every team has its own legal experts and they feel his chances are pretty good that he'll be playing."
As for R. Kelly, the embattled superstar's act is not flying with Lee. Kelly needed a judge's ok for his planned 30-city fall tour. He's awaiting trial on child porn charges stemming from an X-rated home video, allegedly with a minor. In the August issue of Playboy, Lee says, "I saw that DVD… I have a 9-year-old daughter… I look at him in a different light now. I can't listen to his music; I wouldn't buy a record of his."
Lee's new film raps gangsta rap -- Lee attacks rapper 50 Cent, known for glorifying a criminal lifestyle. And Lee calls 50 Cent's debut album, "Get Rich or Die Trying," a very sad statement. "I think it's a wake-up call," Lee insists.
Lee also says that entertainer Bill Cosby provided a wake-up call when he recently criticized the African American community over parenting and crime. But Lee says Cosby's earned the right to say what he's got to say.
