The Island Def Jam Music Group and Roc-A-Fella are teaming up with two innovative digital music retailers, Napster and Buymusic.com, to offer consumers the same added value for digital downloads that labels typically offer CD purchasers through traditional retail. This initiative begins on February 10 with the release of The College Dropout from acclaimed producer/rapper Kanye West. The College Dropout is the first album for which added value content will be offered by digital retailers. Other album downloads with value added content will soon follow from Island Def Jam and other Universal Music Group labels. Upon purchasing The College Dropout album from Napster and Buymusic.com, the consumer will receive an email from these participating retailers with a unique code and a link to Kanye's site, where the content resides. The bonus material is footage of Kanye's in-school performances and recording sessions, along with appearances by Pharell Williams of the Neptunes, Mos Def, and Damon Dash. This video content is available for streaming and can be accessed indefinitely for purchasers of the full album. Also included is a live version of West's track "Jesus Walks" from a recent show at SOB's and his video for the single "Through The Wire." When digital album buyers click on the link and input the unique code provided by the retailer, fans receive unlimited access to this unique content. Roc-A-Fella plans to add additional content periodically so fans can continue to return to the site and access exclusive Kanye features. This initiative continues Island Def Jam's and Roc-A-Fella's inventive and aggressive approach to appealing to the online music consumer. By teaming up with Napster and Buymusic.com, fans receive the same music experience, whether they buy the physical CD in a retail store or the digital album online. "We are committed to rewarding fans who purchase music legitimately, regardless of their preferred format," said Larry Mattera, Sr. Vice President, New Media, The Island Def Jam Music Group. "This is a natural extension of what we are already doing in the physical world. We look forward to other digital retailers joining these two innovative ones as we plan to roll out similar offerings in the future." "Here at Roc-A-Fella and in all my businesses we constantly strive to break new ground. Providing added value to consumers who purchase The College Dropout through legitimate digital music services like Napster and Buymusic is a great way to reward fans who support our artists and music," said Damon Dash, CEO, Roc-A-Fella Records. The Island Def Jam Music Group is home to a multi-cultural and diverse family of artists and has fast become one of the most successful labels in the industry. It is comprised of Island Records, Def Jam Recordings and Def Soul, and is in partnerships with American Recordings, Lost Highway Records, Roc-A- Fella Records, Murder Inc, Bloodline Records, Java Records, Roadrunner Records and MonarC Music. The roster boasts an array of talented artists including Jay-Z, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Ludacris, Ashanti, Ryan Adams, Nickelback, Musiq, Slipknot, Method Man, Hoobastank, Ja Rule, Sum 41, Slayer, Kelly Price, Saliva and DMX.
