Twista is the original fast-tongued emcee who has been an underground staple for years in the hip-hop industry. This week with the release of his first solo album in nearly seven years, Twista tops the Soundscan/Billboard Top 200 charts with Kamikaze.
Twista's Kamikaze has pushed more than 312,000 units in its first week of being released nearly tripling the sales of the #2 ranked album. The album has also simultaneously debuted at #1 on the SoundScan/Billboard "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" chart.
Fueled by the momentum of the lead single "Slow Jamz" featuring Kanye West and Jamie Foxxx, which has been heavily rotated on radio and television markets, is bringing the album to the top of charts. The single is also on track for the #1 spot on both the Billboard "Hot 100" and "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks" charts, where it currently ranks at #2.
In the online world, "Slow Jamz" was the #1 video on LAUNCH/Music on Yahoo! for four consecutive weeks, racking up an impressive 2.6 million streams. A performance of "Slow Jamz" featuring Kanye West will be taped for "Sessions@AOL," and both BET.com and Music Match are hosting Kamikaze listening parties.
Twista is currently on a nationwide promotional run in support of the new album. He plans to hit the road in the spring, which will run from April 12th to May 21st, the bill will also feature Atlantic labelmate T.I.
