22-year-old Tab Virgil, Jr. was in court Thursday. Virgil, who is known as Turk on the rap scene, is a favorite among those who like the so-called "gangsta style" rap. Now, it looks like the life raps about has caught up with him.

Virgil faced a judge in Criminal Justice Court. He's being held on a $1 million bond. Virgil will appear in court again Friday on a bond hearing in an attempt to lower the amount.

Meanwhile, an update on the two Shelby County Sheriff's deputies Virgil is accused of shooting. 31-year-old deputy Jason Pagenkopf has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home this afternoon. 29-year-old SWAT officer Chris Harris was hit three times; in the jaw, leg and thigh. He is still at the Med in critical but stable condition.

As we mentioned Virgil is a rapper from New Orleans. He does have a prior record involving fraud and narcotics. Turk is known for his hard core rap lyrics. He's rapped with the Hot Boys of the New Orleans based record company, Cash Money Millionaires. He's since launched a solo career.

We visited the pop tunes store in Whitehaven. A store where about 75% of the sales come from rap music. We caught up with one Mid-south rapper, Tha' j, who says "sad as it is" the shooting may boost Turk's career among a certain segment of listeners.

In previous interviews Turk has admitted to having a drug problem. He said he had given it up but when officers busted the Hickory Hill apartment he was in, they found drug paraphernalia and the gun he allegedly used to shoot the officers.
