Producer, writer and keyboard player Ronnie King, who has worked with multi-platinum artists, including Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, The Offspring and with Tupac Shakur on some of his biggest hits that include “How Do You Want It” and “Hit Em Up,” has just signed an exclusive publishing deal with industry veteran Jay Warner at Brooklyn Music. Warner is a six-time Grammy Award winner, whose achievements in the music industry are well known.
During his illustrious career, Warner has represented catalogues and music associated with stars such as Rick James, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Erykah Badu, Smokey Robinson, Cher and Mary J. Blige. Warner is also the author of several music industry-related books published under the Billboard Books moniker, and has also written works that have been published by Simon and Schuster and Hal Leonard.
Warner said in a statement, “Ronnie is a multi-functional talent that fits our organization’s desire to continue signing important writer/producer/musicians.” Warner also stated that many artists, such as King, have never received proper credit for their songwriting activities, due to the practice in rap music, where writers often sell their work to the artist for a one-time fee, and they solely receive a performance credit, but no writing credit, despite having penned a portion of the music for a track.
Warner praised King’s versatility as an artist, noting the diversity of King’s work, as noted in his recordings with musicians including the Offspring, Tupac Shakur, Pennywise, Mariah Carey, Joykiller and Snoop Dogg. In addition to administering King’s publishing, Brooklyn Music will also be marketing King’s songs for commercials, films and television shows.
