Louisiana rapper Juvenile has sold millions of albums and is part of the the rap group "Cash Money Millionaires."
But a Gwinnett County woman says the rapper has not shared his wealth with his baby daughter.
Gwinnett Sheriff's deputies have obtained an arrest warrant this week for the 28-year-old multiplatinum rap star on charges of abandonment of a dependent child.
Juvenile, whose real name is Tervis Gray, did not show up for a Gwinnett court hearing that was scheduled in August. At the hearing, a judge was going to determine the amount of child support Juvenile should pay, said Lt. Nick Neal of the Gwinnett Sheriff's Department.
"She is not asking for a million dollars. She is just asking for help." said Neal. "A man of his stature should be able to pay child support."
The baby is about 6 months old, Neal said.
Juvenile's attorney Larry Duttweiler said his client plans to support the child if he is the father. Juvenile is planning to take a paternity test, Duttweiler said.
"I've heard that he has had some other bogus claims before, so we want to get the test," Duttweiler said. "If this turns out to be true, we will deal with this."
Juvenile won a Billboard Award for R&B album of the year and an American Music Award nomination for favorite rap/hip-hop artist of the year. Juvenile is known for wearing gaudy gold jewelry and a hit song, "Back That Thang Up."
But the rapper has been having financial difficulties recently, Duttweiler said.
"Just because someone wears cheap gold jewelry and brags in his videos doesn't mean he is a millionaire," Duttweiler said.
