A judge on Monday ruled that Trick Daddy will be allowed to perform at a Tallahassee concert this week, despite a prosecutor's strong objections because of the South Florida rapper's alleged violations of his bond conditions on drug possession, assault and weapons charges.
But Trick Daddy, whose real name in Maurice Young, will wear an electronic bracelet as he performs Wednesday and when he returns to Miami he will go into house arrest until his trial. Young, 29, was led Monday from Miami-Dade county courtroom and taken to be fitted with a tracking bracelet.
The rapper already was out on bond pending his trial on assault and weapons charges stemming from a February dispute. He was arrested again Wednesday after officers allegedly found cocaine and marijuana hidden in his shirt pocket.
The judge will set a trial date for both cases at the Oct. 15 arraignment, White said.
Assistant State Attorney Stacey Glick objected to Young's release for the concert and being able to stay in house arrest. She told Judge Dennis Murphy that Young should be "sitting in jail."
She similarly objected Friday when Murphy freed Young to play at two clubs over the weekend. Glick said that Young was being treated differently than other defendants who violate the conditions of their bonds.
Young's attorney, Jay White, said that Trick Daddy has no other concerts and will return to house arrest after coming back from Tallahassee.
Murphy told Young, "there will be no other furloughs." He also ordered that Young undergo random drug testing at the sole discretion of pretrial services.
