JERSEY CITY (AP) Jersey City police have tentatively identified a member of rapper 50 Cent's entourage as one of the gunmen who fired shots in a hotel parking lot as the musician checked in earlier this month.
Using hotel security videotapes, police believe they have identified at least one of the men who fired shots into the air in the parking lot of the downtown hotel just after midnight on Sept. 9, Jersey City Police Capt. Peter Nalbach told the Jersey Journal of Jersey City.
No one was injured. Police recovered ten shell casings from the parking lot of the DoubleTree Suites Hotel. Three were from a .45-caliber automatic and seven were from a .40-caliber firearm, said Police Chief Ronald Buonocore.
A witness told police that the 27-year-old rapper, whose name is Curtis Jackson, had arrived at a side door just before the shots were fired. After the shooting, the rapper and most of his entourage left the hotel in sport utility vehicles, police said.
Investigators enlarged a videotaped image of the possible suspect, who was holding a gun. They then identified the man and passed the information on to New York City police, Nalbach said.
New York police on Thursday provided Jersey City investigators with the man's photograph and other information, Nalbach said.
If witnesses confirm the man as one of the shooters, Jersey City police will issue a warrant for his arrest, Nalbach said.
Robert Kalina, 50 Cent's attorney, could not be reached for comment Friday.
