As the powerful and urgent voice of Hip-Hop music, The Source is pleased to announce both the nominees and new categories for The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2003. The Awards will take place in Miami on October 13th and air in primetime during sweeps on BET on Tuesday, November 11th, 2003 at 8:00 pm (ET/PT).
The Source Awards are the oldest and most prestigious awards covering Hip-Hop – the music and cultural revolution born on the urban streets of the United States that has captivated young people in the U.S and around the globe. The Source Awards showcase the best of Hip-Hop with the most vibrant, energetic and purely authentic awards ceremony. The Awards have become so popular that many view the eagerly anticipated event as the “Super Bowl of the Hip-Hop Generation.”
For the 2003 Awards, Lil’ Kim and Jay-Z lead the nominations with five each, including “Album of the Year.” Nelly, 50 Cent, Cam’Ron & The Diplomats each score four nominations. Scarface, Lil’ Jon & The Eastside Boyz, LL Cool J, The Clipse, Missy Elliott, Baby, David Banner, Ludacris & Disturbin The Peace, Pharrell and The Neptunes, and Eve all come in at three nominations each. Bone Crusher, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Slum Village, Field Mob and Ja Rule pull in two apiece.
This year’s Awards include new categories that celebrate emerging trends in Hip-Hop, including its potent international presence, the resurgence of dancehall-reggae and the unique voices from independent labels.
“The Source Awards 2003 show will take Hip-Hop back to the streets. By partnering with BET, we have the platform to show the world what real Hip-Hop is all about,” said Ray “Benzino” Scott, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Executive of the Source.
“The Source is proud to present the premier showcase for recognizing the incredible talents and creative genius of the Hip-Hop movement. It is truly inspiring to be able to bring together all of the leaders of the Hip-Hop community under one roof, for one night, to celebrate our generation’s most powerful and influential culture,” added David Mays, Co-Founder and CEO of The Source.
The eligibility period for The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2003 is June 2, 2002 thru May 31, 2003.
