Although footage was shot during last year's Anger Management tour, don't expect to see an ad for "Girls Gone Wild Shadystyle" on late-night TV anytime soon. An Eminem-hosted installment of the flash flick series is mired in trouble and will probably never be released, according to spokespeople for both "Girls Gone Wild" and the rapper's camp.
"'Girls Gone Wild' wasn't happy with Eminem's participation and is not happy with the finished product," was the less-than-revealing official statement from Mantra Entertainment, the production company behind the exhibitionist videos.
Even if Eminem's performance wasn't Oscar-worthy, it's hard to believe that a company wouldn't want to associate its product with one of this generation's most significant pop culture icons, especially since Snoop Dogg's "Girls Gone Wild Doggystyle" was one of the best-selling titles in the series.
Sources close to the project say it was Eminem who first approached the "Girls Gone Wild" crew and asked to host a video. They complied and videotaped him cavorting with fans during stops on last year's Anger Management tour. After the success of his feature film debut, "8 Mile," however, Em may not have wanted to associate himself with content bordering on softcore porn, so his legal team began working to put the kibosh on the project late last year.
Eminem's spokesperson at Interscope Records wouldn't comment on the flap but said the video won't be coming out. It may be to Em's advantage if the video never does come out, considering the criminal investigation of claims made by two women who say they were underage and were offered drugs when they appeared in the video series.
