We reported on this earlier, but since this is Afeni Shakur announcing the line of clothing, I felt now it is official.
Afeni Shakur, mother of the late Tupac Shakur, has announced that she has been working with designers to create a new men's clothing range under the name of Makavelli (an alias of Tupac's). According to director of marketing for the brand, Rick Edwards, the clothing line is set to hit stores this Christmas.
"The best comparison for the way these clothes are styled and the concept of the brand is something like Enyce or Akademiks," Edwards said in a statement. "[The Makaveli clothes are] influenced by Tupac's style and they represent an evolution of street wear, active wear and high-end fashion."
The clothes are said to feature Tupac's name, poetry, picture and year of birth, according to Dina LaPolt, lawyer for the Tupac Estate. The line is also said to include denim, T-shirts and active wear.
"The impetus for debuting the line was to coincide with the Tupac documentary that Afeni has been working on for five years," LaPolt said.
"Resurrection", the feature-length documentary, which amazingly features commentary by the late Tupac himself, is due out in November.
