Mystikal - whose real name is Michael Tyler - was prevented from performing in a play in Philadelphia on Wednesday (July 30) by Philadelphia mayor John Street, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Mystikal was scheduled to perform at the Dell East in Cordell Moore's Something She Can Feel but the mayor sent the message through intermediaries that he "isn't an appropriate role model for the young people of Philadelphia." Mystikal's understudy stood in for him during the performance.
Mystikal pleaded guilty in June to extortion and battery charges stemming from an incident in 2002 where he allegedly forced his hairstylist to perform sex acts on him and two of his bodyguards because he believed the hairstylist was fraudulently writing checks on his account.
Mystikal was originally facing aggravated rape charges which carry a possible prison sentence of life in jail, but agreed to a plea deal on two lesser offenses. He was sentenced to five years of probation on the extortion charge, and will be sentenced in September on the sexual battery charge.
When spoken to earlier this year, Mystikal did not address his culpability in the incident but shared that the biggest issue to him was that he felt the hairstylist had violated his trust. "I think that was the part that hurt me worst," Mystikal said. "Not all the things that I lost and the things, you know, that were kinda interrupted with that, but it's just, you know... The friendship, man, my trust was broken like that, you know what I'm sayin'? Man, that was rough - that was a big one."
