Eve, the new sitcom featuring the Grammy-winning rapper of the same name, will debut Monday, September 15th, at 8:30 p.m. (EST) on UPN. Despite the show's eponymous title, Eve will not play herself but Shelly, a Miami fashion designer. The show also stars Ali Landry (Spy TV), Natalie Desselle (For Your Love) and Jason George as J.T., the bachelor who captures Shelly's heart.
"I want it to be as real as possible," says Eve, 23, who will also serve as the co-executive producer for the series.
Eve, who has appeared in such films as XXX and Barbershop, is looking forward to expanding her acting career. "I've been touring for four years," she says, "so I'm excited to know that I'm getting up at a certain time, going to a place at a certain time, being able to come home and entertain, have friends over and just chill out for a little while."
Shooting for the sitcom will begin in mid-August. David Janollari, executive producer of the pilot episode of HBO's Six Feet Under and UPN's popular series Platinum, will serve as executive producer. Queen Latifah is slated to be one of the guest stars on the show.
The show will also feature items from Eve's own clothing line, Fetish by Eve, which will be available in stores this fall. Eve says with a laugh, "It's a shameless plug."
