Rapper and actor Eminem surprised fans at a show in London on Monday (June 23) night when he gave away his diamond encrusted pendant and chain to a female fan, according to the New York Post.
At the time, the rapper said the necklace was worth $450,000, but according to the World Entertainment News Network, when the fan finally has the chain appraised it will be worth only $800.
Eminem was apparently angry at reports that said he had spent $750,000 on jewelry in a week. According to NME.com, before the rapper gave away the necklace, he said, "I would never spend that much on jewelry. I'm not fronting, but this cost me $450,000." A spokesperson for Eminem later admitted that the rapper was definitely exaggerating.
Eminem has shows scheduled in Naas, Ireland on Thursday and Friday (June 26 and 27) before returning to the United States.
Fans will be clamoring for front row seats in hopes of getting a necklace at Eminem's two U.S. shows at the Ford Field in Detroit on July 12 and 13. The two shows are the rapper's last scheduled performances for 2003.
In related news, on Tuesday (June 24), Eminem, emerged from his room at the Art House Hotel in Glasgow, Scotland, onto the balcony, wearing a surgical mask, like the kind Michael Jackson often wears. He then dangled a plastic doll over the railing and gleefully tossed it into the air--much to the delight of the fans and reporters who were gathered below and who quickly got Em's joke.
Last year, Michael Jackson made headlines around the world when he dangled his infant son, Prince Michael II, over the balcony railing at a hotel in Berlin, Germany. The incident called into question Jackson's parenting skills and had many people wondering if he was a fit father.
Michael Jackson has so far made no comment on Eminem's stunt.
