DJ Quik has signed L.A.-raised Persian rapper Amir to his Bungalo Records. Quik, who handles a majority of the production on the upcoming project and will also rap on four tracks, explained, “He got style and his material is timely…he reps for the Persian and Arabic community.”
Amir’s first single “Slipped On Da Ice” has already been serviced to radio along with the B-side “Bombs Over Sadaam.” Quik added that Amir helped inspire his fascination with Indian music and spawned the sample for the Truth Hurts’ single, “Addictive.” “He really got me open and got me to try different things with my music.”
Erick Sermon and Butch Cassidy also collaborated on Amir’s debut. The Persian MC added, “I had to come with my A Game. I had one shot… I had to shine to let these guys want to continue working with me.” Amir’s debut album, Amir Image Of My Mind, is set for release in March 2003.
